The Central Board of Secondary Education has clearly laid down rules, roles, power, and bylaws for the formation and management of a School Managing committee in CBSE Affiliated Schools.
Mandatory formation of School Managing Committee
All the CBSE-affiliated schools must have a School Management Committee as
stipulated in RTE Act 2009, and any other enactment or regulations framed by the
State/Appropriate Government.
Composition of School Management Committee:
The management committee of a recognized aided school consists of not more
than fifteen members, and the management committee of a private unaided school consists of not more than twenty-one members; However, in the case of senior secondary schools
offering vocational subject additional member(s) as per subject offered
may be appointed as per stipulated limits.
Membership of the SMC
every management committee includes the following namely:—
(a) The Head of the school. She/he will be an ex-officio Member Secretary of the School Management
Committee;
(b) Two parents of students studying in the school. One father and one mother of students
specifically in co-educational schools.
(c) Two teachers of the schools;
